This is Linda Godwin -- one of the first astronauts in space. I'm writing about her now. She invited me down to Melbourne, Florida for her launch and I had a wonderful time. They took the family group (which I was in) to the site and we sat on bleachers. I am not a space person but when I sat there and her mother was so upset about her going and the launch, and I realized how many things could go wrong, I was petrified. The count was announced to us over the microphone and when they reached 10, I practically lost my breath. When the NASA person came and announced "The Flight is Up", we whooped for joy.Later I went to Jackson, Missouri when her mother committed suicide and Linda was thrilled that I had come.
I hope I conveyed to the alumni that I was with them no matter when times were good or bad. I tried to do just that.
Went to Joan's last night for dinner with Julie and Judy Brown. Virginia Goodwin came over and it was good to be away. Jeff Bickings and Aaron Vance are putting a new storm door in for me today. Frank Nickell should be here to go over the book. Liz will be here to work. Busy day.
