Charles Hutson was one of my best friends in the whole wide world. We were born on the same day of the same year and we were kindred spirits. When he died, I did the eulogy and over 1000 people attended the service. Susan played the organ and Betty Hearnes played the piano. It was a royal sendoff. I still miss him though he has been gone for 7 years. He did nothing ordinary and he made enemies and friends.

Henry Ward Beecher wrote: "The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will and the other from a strong won't". Charlie or "C" as I always called him (he called me "Sister") is that he persevered and he could be obstinate. But, usually, he could figure out which one was called for at that particular moment. I raise a glass to you, C, my life would not have been the same without you!

I met with Dr. Nickell yesterday and he raved about the book--wants nothing changed just more of the same. Wants everything in by October 1 and the book will be available by Valentine's Day. Why did I sign up for this seminary course during all of this? I was reading Hermaneutics and typing interviews last night--taking breaks between them. Lands, it actually worked.
