What do I think of when I think of Velna? Industrious is the first thing that comes to mind. The girl knew how to work and would tackle anything. She made my trouseau when I married and there were about 4 outfits. She taught music, worked for the city, raised kids, lost her husband when she was young, and kept after it. When I was a kid, she was working at San Antonio, right after the war and she sent me a box of Hershey bars when you couldn't get chocolate. Jim was beside himself trying to get those candy bars and there was no place to hide chocolate that he couldn't find it. I think I ate them as fast as I could.
Velna had the tiniest feet--size 5, I think and she could buy sample sizes. No one in the family ever had the shoes that she did in her closet. Memories--each one of us would have different memories of another time. Daddy always said about Bolny, as he called her, that she "was a good citizen." Strange, how I remember that!
